General FAQ

So you’ve decided to take the plunge and try hashing but you are not sure what to do when you arrive and what to bring with you. Below are a few notes that might answer some questions that you might have.

What do I do when I arrive?

When you arrive look for a large group of people dressed in running kit wearing bright t-shirts and ask someone to point you in the direction of a committee member. Don’t worry, they are all mostly harmless.

What do I do with my bag?

Leave it in your (or someone else’s) car. We do stress please do not bring ANYTHING valuable or easily broken, the hash will not be held responsible for anything that goes missing or damaged.

How much does hashing cost?

It’s just £2 for visitors. After that, all you need to bring with you is some refreshment money. You will need to give your run money to the committee member called Hash Cash as soon as possible, preferably before the hash or as soon as possible after.

Is there somewhere to get changed?

As we often meet at a pub, the only place to get changed is the Ladies or the Gents loos, but sometimes we may meet in a car park. So our advice would be to get changed at home because otherwise there will always be lots of hashers queuing up to get changed in the pub loos.

How far do you run?

Firstly, this will not be a non-stop run. Because the trail needs to be found by the faster runners and sometimes this means you have a moment to catch your breath before running again. Most of the main runs are between 3 to 5 miles long, depending on how far you want to run. Don’t worry about being able to keep up, there are people of all abilities. There is also a smaller ‘mini’ trail which is typically 2-miles, for walkers.

What do I need to bring with me?

Obviously, your comfortable running/walking kit but nothing new, new shoes and fancy kit are kind of frowned upon but please bring warm dry clothes to change into after the run as down-downs are held outside all year round. And, the most important thing to bring with you is a sense of humour! We hope to see you at the hash soon and On On.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

This is a common question. A woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. After incredible research and many beers, we conclude that the accurate answer is: so much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood! So much. He would chuck, he would, as much as he could, and chuck as much wood as a woodchuck would if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

But more importantly, which hash are you coming to?
